Google to Replace the Padlock Icon
Nothing to worry about here – our connection is secure, whatever browser you use. We take your privacy very seriously. If you look for the padlock icon, Google are replacing this with the “tune” icon in front of the web address in your browser. This is in front of our web site details in your browser. It means the website displaying the “tune” icon is secure. HTTPS is the industry default standard baseline for secure websites.
In layman’s terms, it distinguishes between “safe” and “secure” websites.
The padlock is being phased out for both computer and mobile users:
- On computers, the browser will show a visually generic “tune” icon instead of the padlock
- On Android devices, the browser will transition to displaying its new tune icon, and
- On Apple iOS devices, the padlock icon (which isn’t clickable) will disappear entirely.
Our website is HTTPS which means it is “secure”. No HTTPS? The site is “Not secure”
If in doubt, look for the “tune” symbols show below
The icon means that data being sent between the computer and the web server is encrypted and cannot be read by others. Or to put it another way;
Users Need to Know the Difference: Safe ≠ Secure
- Secure means your data is transmitted securely via an encrypted connection. However, unless you know the verified identity of the person on the other end of that connection, it isn’t safe or trustworthy. After all, a bad guy could easily steal your data if they have the private key that decrypts your encrypted communications. You need another layer of security for trustworthiness: verified digital identity.
- Safe means that you know the verified digital identity of the entity on the other end of that connection and that you can trust them to treat your data appropriately. This identity validation is done by the certificate authority (CA) that issues the SSL/TLS certificate for the website.
So, the Nightingale Pharmacy Services website is secure! That took a lot of effort! Relax, your data is as safe as we can make it. If you have any queries, you can contact us using any of the methods shown in the link or check our Privacy Policy for more information.
